I just finished reading "Nervous Conditions." In my opinion, it was a pretty good book. It was a challening book, because there is a lot of strong vocabulary words in there. Also, you have to pay attention to whats happening or you might get confused or lost. I like the characters in the book. I like Nyasha, Tambu, and Maiguru the best. They are all strong and independent women trying to find out who they are. It was so difficult to be a female in there culture at that time, so I really respect them for standing up for themselves. I like the way that Nyasha and Tambu's relationship as cousins in the story grew. They are such different people, but it was nice seeing them become so close to eachother.
The book was good, but it was depressing at times. Each of the characters in the book had to go through a hard time. Tambu's parents had to go through the loss of their son and the mother had to go through depression. Maiguru had to go through leaving her husband and being trapped underneath Babamukuru. Nyasha had to go through an eating disorder and also being trapped under Babamukuru. Tambu had to go through her brother's death (which didn't phase her much), leaving her family, living in a whole new place, dealing with Nyasha's eating disorder, and being bossed around by Babamukuru. Each of the characters has a certain uneasy and nervous condition that they are in.
I reading 150 minutes of this book. Monday-Thursday and Sunday.
